The first patent in 2020 at Al-Karkh University of Science
Dr. Joweid worked with a team from Almustansaria University/College of Science on developing a new therapy. The aim of the study was to synthesis a drug for treating the skin infection. New 1,3 oxazole derivative (E)-2-chloro-N-(2-(4-(2-chlorobenzylidene)-5-oxo-2-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethyl)acetamide was synthesized with high yield and identified by FTIR, H1 NMR, and mass spectroscopy. The effectiveness of the new derivative was studied as an antimicrobial agent and its ability to inhibit the growth of several types of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus gram-positive response and Kelebsiella pneumonia gram-negative response, the half-lethal dose (LD50) of the new derivative was calculated on laboratory animals such as mice by assigning the dose that causes the death of 50% of laboratory animals. As well as the examination of the histopathological of the rats’ liver that survived after 24 hours of injection effect of new derivative on to identify the toxicity of the drug. Finally, the effectiveness of the antibacterial activity within the body was evaluated by applying the new derivative on laboratory animals such as rabbits at the age of three months by stripping and contaminating bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. After the appearance of signs of inflammation, the treatment was introduced using the new derivative by mixing the specified half-Lethal dose (LD50) of derivative with Vaseline to prepare an ointment. The results of the treatment showed a marked improvement after one day of treatment compared to rabbit control.
Thus, the dean of the College of Energy and Environment Science Dr. Amani Altemimi awarded Dr. Joweid an acknowledgment certificate for her efforts and wished her all the best.
